Pearl

Failure. It’s a tough topic. After reading the amazing book, The Rise, by Sarah Lewis, I began to understand that it can be our greatest teacher, but only if we shift our mindset surrounding it. I interviewed ten people on the topic of failure and set out to create a safe space where people can speak about, read about, learn about failure. From the data I collected it bacame clear, in order to progress as people and as a society, we must rebrand failure.

IS IT POSSIBLE TO REBRAND FAILURE?

Rebranding Failure

Failure has become a word that strikes shame and fear into our heart at it’s very mention. I thought if we were going to shift our perception, we must first change our vocabulary. I decided to come up with a metaphor that would encompass my new definition. Failure can be compared to a pearl. It is presented to us in an ugly exterior making it hard to see the good inside. In order to get to the good, you must go inward. Feeling it and exploring it can be a painful and slow process. But what results is often something rare and beautiful and transformative. Often containing within it something infinitely valuable, a pearl of wisdom. It's beauty and value accentuated by the struggle.
